Add Facebook like button to your website

By Detector | 22 April 2010

Facebook simplify the social connection process to a simple code that can be easy integrated into your blogs and websites. The company release a set of Social plugins that will help you to improve your social web interactions. The visitors can “Like” news stories, photos, recommend stories, track the visits and so on.

You can read more and generate buttons and other Facebook code for all blog and cms platforms here.

The Like button can be added into your websites by dropping in an i-frame, and when a Facebook user clicks it, it’s the same as clicking on a Like button inside Facebook. Here is simple tutorial how to insert the like button into your website or blog.

If you are using wordpress, you can use a newly developed Facebook like plugin – download here or go to your template folder, open single.php and insert this line before line comments – or comments div tag (if you are more experienced coder you can insert it everywhere you like). You can change your size and color scheme, read more about that at facebook developer page.

<iframe src=”http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=&layout=standard&show-faces=true&width=350&height=60&action=like&colorscheme=light” scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0″ allowTransparency=”true” style=”border:none; overflow:hidden; width:350px; height:60px”></iframe>

There’s also a few new announced plugins. Recommendations plugin shows the list of most popular stories on your blog determined by users who clicked “like” button. The semantic HTML site identification tells Facebook what type of real-world object your site represents. So, if you run a technology website, you can add semantic HTML tags that tell Facebook about your site: Technology magazine, Best how-to, tips and tricks, linux, windows, apple stories. So, when a Facebook user clicks on the Like button embedded on your page, your webside will be added to the technology section of their profile. Also, the link on Facebook profile will lead directly to the website where the Like button was clicked.

Facebook is now offering real-time user reports, which makes it easier to follow user activities. You can easy setup this with Facebook insights. After login, add your domain and web site name. Facebook will generate unique meta tag verification code that you must insert it on top of your webs site header. After Facebook verification, you will have detailed reports of your user activities.

Now, do you like this story?

  4. Hi there,Fantastic post, although i’m more concerned in what will come out of the google vs facebook social network war. I have not discovered much news on it recently, which quite likely implies that it’s definitely not that far off, but i’ve a idea its really going to lead to a number of massive improvements to social networks. In my opinion, i’d personally rather facebook came out of the battle still in the lead because google’s already big enough, additionally they already hold too much data on everybody. I don’t feel that both can exist though, either google’s social network will control or completely fail. What does anybody else believe?
